Ghost Hunters In Ohio
The Ouija Board Experiments
The SHGHRS Ouija Board experiments have begun! We will be documenting a series of Ouija Board experiments under many different test conditions and in different environments and locations. Our intention is to try and either prove or disprove all of the old wives tales, warnings and supposed dangers surrounding the Ouija Board once and for all. Is it some form of psycho/telekinesis? Is it our own subconscious minds? Or is it truely spirits and otherworldly beings that are channelling through the Ouija Board? Is it possible for a Ouija Board to open a gateway that allows spirits, demons or other malevolent beings to enter our realm?
These are the questions we will be attempting to answer with well documented, scientific evidence to support our claims. Then you can be the judge.... Enjoy!
Thoughts And Beliefs Before
I used the Ouija a lot when I was younger and I still have mixed feelings about them. I remember one night imparticular when we were using the board. It was one of those times the board was saying all kinds of creepy scary things and had us all freaked out. At one point I sat outside of the circle while the others were doing it and when they would ask it a question I would concentrate on what I wanted it to say and it would spell out my thoughts some of the time. So, to an extent that proved to me that it isn't just our subconscious minds causing the planchet to move as some theories suggest. At least not only the people who's hands are on the planchet anyway. However, that was a long time ago and it wasn't done in a study frame of mind and nothing was documented.
I think many of the old wives tales surrounding the Ouija Board, such as "don't use the board alone", don't drink or use drugs while using the board", etc. are just that.... Wives tales. Mostly fueled by Hollywood. The thing with "don't use the board alone" that gets me is, well.... ya can't. At least in my experience. I have tried it quite a few times and the planchet will barely even move with only one person's hands on it. So, in that respect, it kind of proves that it may be our subconscious minds working together (or against one another) that causes the planchet to move.
All this aside, I still don't know how comfortable I will be in a notoriously haunted cemetery or somewhere, using the Ouija Board. We have captured evidence of some pretty bizarre looking "things" in cemeteries and quite honestly, they just don't look all that friendly to me. The way I look at it is, regardless of whether or not it is actually spirits causing the planchet to move, it is a very strong focus point if nothing else and I don't know how great of an idea it would be to be possibly drawing some of the things we've seen to us. It just may be inviting trouble. It's not even that any physical harm would likely come out of it as a result, but psychological damage may be another story entirely.
The think what kills me is how the majority of other ghost hunters strictly warn against using Ouija Boards and believe all of these old wives tales. Yet, just like us, they're right out in the cemeteries with their audio recorders, talking to the spirits and asking them questions. So, what seems more dangerous, communicating with spirits on a piece of cardboard with some letters on it and a hunk of plastic or directly communicating with them vocally?
Experiment # 1 - May 24, 2005
This was not actually a targeted Ouija Board experiment, as our main focus was on our investigation. The investigation took place in an area that is known as Tinker's Creek in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio (Cleveland), which began in a very old and decrepid little cemetery. We were planning on easing into our Ouija Board experiments on this night by just simply setting the board up in the cemetery and leaving one of our nightvision cameras focussed on it to see if the planchet would move on its own accord. We decided that our other video recorder would be more beneficial elsewhere, so we scratched the idea. However, we ended up actually using the Ouija Board for a short time around 11:00 PM. For some reason the planchet wouldn't even budge. We think this may be due to the dew that was settling and causing the board to be less slippery than desired or maybe Tony's planchet was a bit too heavy. It may have been because of all the commotion as well. It was a spur of the moment idea to actually use the board in the cemetery, so no one had been briefed on the basics of Ouija Board use and etiquette. Even though the Ouija Board itself wasn't functioning properly, we obtained several other pieces of fascinating evidence, while we were using it.
Only one EVP was obtained, prior to the beginning of the Ouija Board experiment. From the time we put our fingers on the planchet until the time we took them off and walked away, at least 14 EVP's were obtained, within only 20 minutes/26 seconds. Of those, many are either direct communication or personal communication and we consider two of them to be Threatening Direct Communication. After that time, no more EVP's were obtained in the cemetery. Considering the fact that only one other EVP was obtained before using the Ouija Board and none afterwards, we feel those are some pretty substantial numbers that are very worthie of consideration. Additionally, we captured quite a bit of orb activity on video, during the time we were using the Ouija Board, but there was an enormous amount of orb activity all night long, so we cannot say that orb activity increased while we were using the Ouija Board. However, the electronic voice phenomenon may be another story....
We have to conclude that the electronic voice phenomenon activity clearly increased during the short time we were using the Ouija Board on this night and that there just may be something to it. However, this was only the first of many more necessary experiments we must do. The most intriguing EVP we obtained was the wicked sounding old woman that said, "I'm gonna kill em all!" just as we walked away from the Ouija Board. She clearly sounded VERY pissed off as you will hear! We just hope she was only joking.... >8>|
Again, our main focus was not on our Ouija Board experiments on this night like they will be in the future, so we will not go in depth here. Please Click Here to review our complete Tinker's Creek reports, where you will find all of the EVP's and video clips that were mentioned above.
